CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA), an international marine environmental consulting and survey company headquartered in Florida, USA, recently completed a consultancy project for the design and fabrication of a state-of-the-art, purpose-built mobile science laboratory for Chevron Mediterranean Limited (CML).
The container-based lab, specifically designed to support CML’s ongoing offshore marine environmental monitoring efforts and preparedness protocols, is now fully operational in Israel’s territorial waters and Exclusive Economic Zone.
The self-contained laboratory allows for rapid mobilisation and installation on any vessel, making it ideally suited to emergency response deployments. The laboratory is fully ventilated and supplied with both electricity and running water. The interior is equipped with all the scientific equipment needed to conduct water and sediment collection and processing, including generous storage space for chemical samples.
CSA has a long-standing relationship with CML in the region, having run many of the offshore developer’s environmental monitoring programmes over the last 15 years. This invaluable experience in the field helped inform several of the unique features incorporated into the laboratory’s design, including a modular workspace that can be adapted for a range of different types of surveys. The laboratory was also specifically outfitted to operate in the often very hot and humid temperatures typically found in the Eastern Mediterranean.
“We are delighted to support CML’s environmental monitoring capabilities in the Eastern Mediterranean,” said Mr. Elad Mills, Chief Executive Officer of CSA’s Israel office. “This cutting-edge mobile laboratory will allow operatives to perform a wide range of specific marine survey tasks—including water column profiling, sediment investigation, and biological sample processing—to expedite in situ offshore operational decisions based on real-time data and analysis.”
The turnkey container laboratory serves as a base model for other offshore operators looking for similar mobile support assets, as the configuration is fully customizable to fit any operational requirements and/or regulatory frameworks in different jurisdictions. This project represents yet another significant milestone in CSA's story of supporting the international energy market with the latest tech-inspired equipment and resources to operate efficiently and effectively in offshore environments.
